Heavy is the burden that we choose to live our lives
Working hard to make the bills just go away
Wanting to be happy in the moments we're awake
Here in America that's just the day to day

Trying to please the hand that feeds us we grow old
Biting anything else we see as prey
"Keep out of my backyard!" is our country's call

Can't we see why we're empty?
Why we hurt all the time?
That there's no room for hope to squeeze in edgewise
Living seems like a crime

Can't we look to be truly free?
Why our dreams pantomime
That day to day crawl through the happy lies
Living depravity and grime

Can't we realize our exigency?
Why can't we see what is not sublime?
That if we all run for the prize
Living as the figure most prime

The first principle is to want to change from the way you once were
Then love those who do not yet know how
You were all just babies once
By loving all your fellow man they can learn from example
And generations surely will prosper
But there's no better time to start than now

Filled with love, filled with hope, given freedom, given life

In awe of life around you, inspired to cause a shift
Impressed to love your neighbor, inspired to heal the rift
