Emmaus
by Dan
Walking and looking at the ground
Our ears are puzzled by the sound
Of a man speaking languages we know we've heard before
But we just keep pressing on our way What else do You want us to say?
Are You a stranger that You do not know the things that happened?
Emmaus, what secrets do you hide?
What's on the other side of this path of hopelessness
Savior, my eyes are open wide
But I am still to blind to remember the beginning
When we walked like we were winning
He opens up our book of thought
And gives us answers that we sought
How is it that we never recognized His subtle interventions?
But our eyes were so downcast
We focussed so much on our fast
That we almost missed the feast, until He broke the bread
Emmaus, what secrets do you hide?
What's on the other side of this path of hopelessness
Savior, my eyes are open wide
But I am still to blind to remember the beginning
When we walked like we were...
The destination never mattered, anyway
But along the way we lost track of where we were
Our final glory is defined by Who is there
And He is right beside us, whispering in our ear...
Emmaus, what secrets do you hide?
What's on the other side of your face of hopelessness
Savior, please open up my eyes
These scales fall to the side as my risen head is spinning
I will walk like I am winning
